As our population grows so does the incidence of missing and run away children. Fortunately technology has changed and returning these children and catching perpetrators has increased dramatically. Through rapid information response to law enforcement children can be returned within hours or days rather than weeks, months, years or never. One of the co-founders of IdentiPrintz, a former police officer and US Federal agent has been on the front line investigating missing and runaway children. In 20 years of experience he found children can be located and returned home safely, often with the help of simple information, an updated photo and good biometric data that is provided to the police immediately. When a child is reported missing and the police are called one of the first things they ask for are the 4 W’s: WHO is the child? WHAT are they wearing? WHEN were they last seen? WHERE were they last seen? The police need a name and description of the child (the first W). The radio is a powerful tool and can get information out immediately to surrounding officers and agencies who will be looking for the child. If the child is not located immediately the scope of the investigation broadens. This is where forensic information is extremely crucial. Having on hand a full set of fingerprints and files that are already formatted on a disk allows law enforcement to immediately upload them into the FBI’s nationwide database. In some cases a child has run away. We never think it will happen to us but it can! When kids run away they often do so without thinking things through. They don’t take enough money for food, gas, bus or train often turning to shop lifting or gas drive offs. If they are caught by police or just contacted for loitering, which in many cases happens, the officer can scan the fingerprints and check it against data in the FBI’s National Crime Information Computer (NCIC). If the parent has provided the prints they received in their IdentiPrintz kit to law enforcement at the beginning there will be an immediate match. If not, they may get a summons and/or released. No one knows they are a missing or a runaway child. If the unthinkable happens and the child is abducted, the IdentiPrintz kit is more important than ever. The kit has biometric data that can possibly mean the difference in identifying or returning your child. 1000s of cases have been unsolved without resolution or closure for the family. If a child has been abducted at a young age they can grow up not knowing their true parents or who they really are. As they get older their chance for getting fingerprinted for ID purpose grows as banks, drivers license bureaus or application for certain jobs often utilize biometric data. If the parents turned over the fingerprint file to law enforcement then there will be an immediate match and authorities notified. That loved one CAN be found! Unfortunately, there are cases in the world that don’t end happily but they do need addressed. Child abduction ending in death is rare but a reality. We see it in the news too often. Human remains are found and in many cases go unsolved as to what happened or who the victim is. Due to lack of information provided to law enforcement on the victim identification is sometimes impossible, never giving closure to a family. IdentiPrints provides a DNA kit from a leading provider of forensic DNA collection, research and development. You take a quick sample from your child by swabbing the inside of their cheek, close the cap and store it safely. IdentiPrintz does not store a data base or forward to government agencies. The ID kit is for you to have in case of emergency. Having the proper tools to keep your kids safe is essential, "because protecting our children is everyone’s responsibility." |
